Update 5: New Tutorials, Visual/Sound Effects, UI Revamp, New Cat Animation

Hi everyone! Thank you so much to everyone that has played our demo since our last update! We hope you've been having fun with rhythm mode! Here is the demo's fifth update! As a reminder, for the duration of the demo we plan to put out small but more frequent updates like this one. Much of the content of these updates will include bugfixes, new features, and continued polish as we move towards Early Access. Without further ado, here are the big takeaways from Update 5:

Major Changes

  • New Tutorials -- The old tutorial has been replaced with four new tutorials:
    • Movement: Learn the controls to move the cat around!
    • Notes: Learn how to collect Notes by moving around and playing your instrument at the right time!
    • Samples: Learn how to earn checkpoints by collecting Samples!
    • Shooting Lasers: Learn how to destroy obstacles in your path by playing unisons (two of the same notes in a row)!
  • Visual Effects -- It's visual feedback galore! We've added tons of particle effects and other visuals to indicate how you're performing in a level. Also, we've added some cool on-death/level reset animations where the cat gets teleported down to your last checkpoint.
  • Sound Effects -- In addition to adding new music for the tutorials, some sound effects will play to accompany the new visual effects described above.
  • UI Revamp -- We heard that a lot more guidance and instructions were needed, so we designed some splash screens that will display during tutorial levels and some other places to help you out!
  • New Cat Animations -- The cat now has improved jumping and diving animations which change speed depending on how fast the cat is moving/how fast the tempo of the level's backing track is!

Minor Changes

  • Bug Fixes and User Feedback -- Now, in the level selector, when you choose a level to play, a setup window will pop up, where you will be able to choose the input mode (computer keyboard or MIDI device) and the game mode (normal mode or rhythm mode) you wish to play. Also, you'll be able to hear a preview of the song you're about to play!
  • Help Screen -- Available in both the starting menu and the level selector, press the question mark button at the top left corner of the screen to view all of the tutorial/instructions splash screens.

That's all for this update. If you've made it this far, thanks for reading. As always, we really appreciate feedback and if you'd like to provide some then check out the section on the main page. Also be sure to check out our Instagram and Discord as well! Until next time!

P.S. We've got some cool things coming in the next update!! Get excited :)
